ABOUT THE INGREDIENTS

White Pine

White pine (Pinus strobus) is a needled-evergreen plant,  also recognized as the tree of peace.  It has a tall straight trunk while its leaves can usually be seen in the cluster of 5, 4, or 3 which normally fall at maturation. The leaves are serrated, bluish-green, and 2-5 inches long. The tree is marked by slender cones that contain seeds for the propagation of white pine through the wind. The cone is scaled with a resinous tip and rounded apex.

It acts as rubefacient, diuretic, antiseptic, and anthelmintic. White pine is also fruitful in the treatment of urinary tract infections and rheumatic conditions. The inner bark of the white pine presents itself as a perfect expectorant and demulsifier. Topical application of its poultice aids in healing the cuts, wounds, and sores.

Peppermint

Peppermint (Mentha x Piperita) is a natural hybrid of watermint (Mentha aquatica) and spearmint (Mentha spicata). This rhizomatous herbaceous perennial has serrated leaves, marked by red veins with light pink to mauve flowers growing in a cone shape.
Since 1500 BC, peppermint has been imparting its sprightly, fresh coolness to sweet and savory dishes. Medicinally, it helps with bacterial infections, chest congestion,  muscular spasms, fever, pain, wet cough, and inflammatory conditions. It is a great ally of the gastrointestinal tract as it helps with various digestive ailments, including flatulence, bloating, nausea, heartburn, hiccups, stomach/intestinal cramps, irritable bowel syndrome, and other digestive ailments that erupt due to the colonization of bacteria.

MAYERNIK KITCHEN EST. 2015

Mayernik Kitchen was created in 2015, by husband and wife, Matt and Shannon, and since has grown with the offering of 75+ plant medicine products, workshops and classes held monthly, and an online community of eager learners. We invite you to join the community via social media and through our bi-weekly newsletter, where we share our gardens, harvests & medicines with you.

Nestled in the suburbs of Passaic County, Matt and Shannon grow over 100 species of plants in their backyard garden, which then turn into the plant medicine they hand-craft and sell in the Mayernik Kitchen Market. With over 10+ years of herbal experience between the couple, they thrive on making products for their community, as well as those across the country, to encourage a natural, healthy lifestyle.

Herbalism has shaped the lives of Matt and Shannon and is incorporated into their everyday lives. Both avid creators in the kitchen, the couple try to incorporate plant medicine into their meals by cooking with the herbs, preserving them for the cooler months, or fermenting the gardens bounty.
